Welcome to October 2005

Greetings Everyone,

September has been a very busy month. As the mother of twin daughters, Ann and Katie, who are now seniors in high school, I am noticing that life is beginning to take on a brand new look and feel. College applications, scholarships, and big decisions about what what's next for Ann and Katie are all calling me to be a different mother and a different coach.

The biggest lesson that I am learning is around how to allow Ann and Katie to make their own decisions, make big mistakes and as John Maxwell says "Fail Forward." This is one of the toughest roles I have had to play as a mom, and it has called me to begin thinking about my clients as well...What does it take for them to truly succeed, and when do I allow them to "fail forward?"

My answer to this rests in the word trust. By providing Ann and Katie with tons of love, great coaching, a supportive environment and a safe place to land, I can trust that they will always make the best decision for their lives. Of course, during the process, things don't always look like I think they should...the process looks very messy (I wish you could see the stacks of papers and notes just to complete a college scholarship application.) The same holds true for my clients. They always give their very best, and they always come out on top. Even though in the moment, things don't always look just as I think they should, the learning is tremendous. The bumps and scrapes only serve to make them stronger, better, tougher.

So...for the month of October, I am going to challenge you to allow people in your life to really fly. Give them the love, the support, the safe place to land and the trust that in the end...all will turn out as Mary Poppins says "Practically Perfect in Every Way."
